Fall Pinhole Camera Workshop in Kamogawa
by Edward Levinson

October 21-22, 2006

The annual Fall workshop is being held by Edward Levinson at Edo’s studio/darkroom/gallery/home in the countryside of Kamogawa, Chiba Pref., on the Boso peninsula! The house is located on top of a hill a few kilometers from the sea. Kamogawa, is a two hour train or bus ride from Tokyo Station.

This workshop involves making pinhole cameras and learning how to use them to make creative photographs. Mostly we will work with simple box or can cameras and paper negatives. Some Polaroid products will also be available for use as well as guidance on how to use film with pinhole cameras. Time will be spent making the camera,  photographing, and developing and printing in the the black and white darkroom. An excursion to the beach for shooting is part of the schedule. There is also time for looking at Edward’ prints as well as those of students. We will make a field trip to the ocean and nearby rice fields.  Open to beginners as well as experienced  photographers. Overnight accommodation is at a “minshiku” nearby in the “mountains”.

Workshops are limited to five to ten people. The small group allows for one on one learning with Edward as well as a knowledgeable assistant.
