The Japan Pinhole Photographic Society (JPPS) was founded as an organization in 2005 to promote the art of pinhole photography in Japan. Its purpose is to offer information on pinhole technique and camera making, organize workshops and events, hold informal pinhole photo taking gatherings, and yearly members' exhibitions. It also hopes to network with pinhole photographers around the world.

Our purpose is to serve as a source of easy to understand pinhole information in Japanese, including the principles and history of pinhole photography. We hope to serve as a place for the exchange of such information. We want people to be moved by the simplicity and beauty of pinhole photography and to enjoy it without the fear of failure. We will consider the place for pinhole in modern society. We see pinhole photography as a way for young minds to expand through scientific education. For adults it is a way to express art, thought, and feelings. Simply put we want to "spread the word" of pinhole.

Activities:

1. Pinhole Photography Workshops

2. Member photo shoots on a regular basis

3. Organize exhibitions of groups and solo shows

4. Hold informal social gatherings to get to know members as friends

5. Organize symposium, lectures, and research activities.

6. Maintain an active home page

7. Publish an e-mail magazine and newsletter

8. Publish and offer support for pinhole photo books and related materials. 

9. Build an archive of pinhole materials

Membership includes:

1. Members receive a printed pinhole manual (in Japanese) and membership card

2. Participate in yearly members' exhibition (extra fees may apply)

3. Receive preferential treatment for workshops, photo taking gatherings, lectures, and other events.

4. Receive newsletter and e-mail magazine

5. Question and answer support

6. Shared information with other members

1. General Member - (Residing in Japan) One time joining fee 2,000 yen, plus 3,000 per year.

2. Internet Member (Residing in Japan) - One time joining fee 2,000 yen, plus 1,000 yen per year.

Events 2007

• March 2007, JPPS Photo Exhibition at Photo Imaging Expo (PIE) at Tokyo Big Site. A juried show of JPPS members on display at Tokyos's biggest Photo Expo.

• The JPPS Member's Exhibition 2007 was held August 8 -12th  2007 in Tokyo. There was a member's exhibition, a pinhole making workshop, and a symposioum and genral meeting on Sunday August 12.  See links below for snapshots of the exhibition. For info in English on plans for the 2008 show contact
